Albany Center Gallery's Annual Members' Show focuses on the importance of local and regional artists that live and create work within 100 miles of Albany. The Members' Show will be held from Friday, December 7, 2018 to Friday, January 19, 2019. The Opening Reception will be held on Friday, December 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in conjunction with the Fort Orange Holiday Market taking place in the Arcade Building hallway. At the Opening Reception, we will be awarding over $300 in cash prizes, along with other prizes and awards.

ACG’s Members' Show highlights and recognizes a wide range of talented members, bringing together a dynamic cross-section of artists, diverse in medium and degree of establishment. Members range from student and emerging artists to established and international artists, from painters and photographers to sculptors and mixed media artists. ACG sees this show as an opportunity for exposure, promotion, and appreciation of all who have invested their time and energy in making our gallery what it is today.

This year for our Members’ Show, we are focusing on the concept “Small Works, Big Impact” and highly encourage artists to submit artwork that is 12” x 12” or smaller. This small size suggestion is due to the fact that we have over 250 members of ACG (yay!) and limited wall space available at the gallery to showcase members’ artwork. As you may have seen from past Members’ Shows, 150+ artworks are hung salon-style (floor to ceiling). By submitting small works, you will help us to showcase as many members as possible. As an incentive to submit a small work of art, we have adjusted our awards as follows:

  • All artists who submit a work of art that is 12” x 12” or smaller will be eligible to win the “Small Works, Big Impact” Best in Show award of $200

  • All artists who submit a work of art that is larger than 12” x 12” (up to 24” x 24”) will be eligible to win the Best in Show award of $100

Call for Art: Annual Members' Show FAQ

What do I need to be able to submit?

You must have an active ACG membership valid through 1/18/19 along with one ready-to-hang work of art! You can purchase a membership here.

What media are acceptable?

There is no restriction as to what media can be used. All forms of media - photography, painting, sculptures, drawing, digital, etc. - are welcome!

How many pieces can I submit?

One piece of art per member.

Is there a size restriction?

24” x 24" x 24" (including mat and frame). (Sculpture artists, please contact the gallery if you have concerns with sizing). Any work larger than 24” in any direction will not be accepted.

The piece I’m thinking of submitting has previously been shown at ACG. Can I submit it again?

No. Work cannot have shown previously at Albany Center Gallery.

What do I need to do prior to drop-off?

Label the back of the artwork with the artist’s name, title of work, and phone number. Ensure the work is ready to hang in an undamaged frame with wire on the back. Please no saw-tooth hangers or single triangle brackets. All artwork should be wrapped and labeled on the front of packing with the artist’s name, packaging will be returned with work on pick up dates.

When is the submission deadline and artwork drop-off deadline?

Artists are highly encouraged to submit artwork information online via Submittable by Sunday, November 25 at 11:59 p.m.. If you have technical difficulties, you can provide the artwork info at the time of drop-off (please allow extra time to do so). Artwork must be delivered to ACG on Monday, November 26 between noon and 5 p.m. or Tuesday, November 27 between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Is there a fee?

Do you have to be a member of ACG to submit your work for the show?

Yes! You can become a member the day of drop-off, or any time prior. Memberships can be purchased on our website, by calling ACG, or in person with cash, check or credit card in the Gallery. Your membership must be valid through 1/18/19 or you will be asked to renew your membership.

Is there an opening reception?

Yes! We would love for you to attend the Opening Reception on Friday, December 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Albany Center Gallery. The reception will take place in conjunction with the Fort Orange Holiday Market in the Arcade Hallway, a festive opportunity for you to shop local for all your holiday needs.

When is the exhibit?

The exhibit will be on display at ACG from Friday, December 7, 2018 to Friday, January 19, 2019. Please note: ACG will be closed from Sunday, December 23, 2018 through Tuesday, January 1, 2019, and will reopen with normal business hours on Wednesday, January 2, 2018.

What are the pick-up dates?

Artwork must be picked up between Tuesday, January 22 and Thursday, January 24, noon to 5 p.m.. A $5/day late fee will be incurred on any artwork not picked up on the 22-24. Artwork left longer than 30 days after the closing of the show will become the property of Albany Center Gallery.
