NATIONAL EXHIBITED ARTIST PAUL MAUREN TO EXHIBIT SCULPTURE IN SOLO SHOW AT ALBANY CENTER GALLEY

From October 7 - November 4, Albany Center Gallery will exhibit 12 wall sculptures constructed in a variety of materials by Albany sculptor, Paul Mauren. The exhibition entitled, “Where Things Go, Sculpture by Paul Mauren” opens October 7 and continues through November 4. The opening reception will be held on Friday, October 7 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Mauren developed his exhibition, “Where Things Go,” in a precise manner using small objects and materials that represent aesthetic, impulsive choices, and things associated with meaningful events in his studio practice during the past three decades. Mauren states, “The inventory of collected, edited and stored objects functions as my three-dimensional sketchbook, representing evidence of personal failures, successes, disparate origins and brief moments of clarity.” Observations and memories of how things migrate in the natural world and the consequences of human intervention are important external factors in this new group of sculpture.

The artist has exhibited widely including Art/Omi, Ghent, N.Y.; Jamaica Art Center, Queens, N.Y.; Albany Institute of History and Art, Albany, N.Y.; Albany International Airport Gallery, Albany, N.Y.; Sculpture Center, New York, N.Y.; Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, N.Y.; Queens College, Queens, N.Y.; Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y.; Union College, Schenectady, N.Y.; Williams College, Williamstown, Mass.; Munson Williams Proctor Institute, Utica, N.Y.; Opalka Gallery, Sage College, Albany, N.Y.; Southern Vermont Arts Center, Manchester, Vt.; Contemporary Sculpture at Chesterwood, Stockbridge, Mass.; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, Ohio. Sculpture from the series “Where Things Go” is in the permanent collection of the Albany Institute of History and Art.

Mauren is Professor of Art at the Center for Art and Design, The College of Saint Rose, Albany, New York, where he has taught undergraduate and graduate sculpture since 1978. Mauren earned an MFA degree in sculpture from Eastern Michigan University in 1975. During the early 1980s, he served as Master Teacher of Sculpture at The New York State Summer School for the Arts, sponsored by the New York State Education Department and the State University of New York at Fredonia.
