Smallbany Gallery at ACG

During the week of Thursday, February 24 through Saturday, February 26 from Noon - 5 p.m., a pop-up installation of Smallbany Gallery with artist Thomas Lail was on view at ACG, curated by Katie Chwazik!

From Smallbany Gallery: "Just hanging out with some aerial views of “22022” on 2/22/22! We’re enjoying the stars reflected all over the gallery in today’s sunlight, and with so much going on in the world reflecting on maps, borders, and symbolic actions.

Stop by @albanycentergallery between noon and five on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday to see this show in person!

Thomas Lail shares about this work: 'Flags and maps are models. Lines drawn across pictures of the world are here refigured as ad-hoc banners and standards to be raised by post-peak castaways. Each unfurled banner might signal a repeated hope for our viral moment … a utopian dream. Or a dystopian nightmare? Maps, domes, and the streaming garland stars of fading borders & nations of passport stand in for stories and dreams, but now find themselves encircled by rising tides and viral beachheads… anxious projections of Global Weirding.'

Smallbany Gallery is a 1/12 scale gallery and installation space that is focused on Albany and Capital Region artists (with occasional guest artists from further afield).

"This is a space to show work in a different way - and we hope it provides an opportunity for artists to work creatively without spending large amounts of money, time, and space on a life-scale installation. Work small, think big!" - Katie Chwazik, Smallbany Gallery Curator
