Look Back At a Creative Life

It's been a while since we've had a contemporary art show as openly old school as "Then & Now: Robert Cartmell." And it's great that the work comes from such a well-tested, purist sensibility. Cartmell's paintings, prints and drawings remind us of the basic expressive possibilities of 20th century art and art-making, of line and color, of the materials themselves in a variety of approaches. The show pours out a direct, personal, material vision of the world.
