"We won’t quibble with the fact that the top four finishers in this category are technically museums rather than galleries. (And no letters, please. Yes, we know some of them are comprised of multiple galleries.) The Albany Institute of History & Art, a perennial favorite, also has the experience. Its roots go back to 1791 with the creation of the Society for the Promotion of Agriculture, Arts and Manufactures in New York City, transferring here five years later when Albany became the state capital."
