Albany Center Gallery celebrates 35 year

Thirty five years ago, Albany Center Gallery opened on one basic principle: nurture emerging artists and connect them to the community. Since then, the downtown Albany organization has become a blueprint for other nonprofit, community-based arts groups from the Catskills to Lake George.

As ACG celebrates its anniversary this month, it is still pursing its mission, but under the toughest economic times it has experienced. Membership is at about 150 — half of what it was a few years ago. Last year, the city cut all of its funding. Meanwhile, Sarah Martinez, its director for more than four years, left to pursue other interests at the end of 2010.
