About the Artist Mentor: Kayla Jolin is a multimedia artist and creative director based in Troy, NY. They earned a BFA in painting from the University of Arizona in 2016 and have been working as a freelance artist and educator since. Jolin is currently a member of The Studio Troy, an incubator and arts space where they host a wide range of multimedia immersive events. They also recently opened Upstarts Arts Collective, a group of art studios and an event space where they plan to offer workshops in the upcoming year. Watercolor has always been Jolin's favorite medium, particularly due to its rich, vibrant quality and versatility. They keep a pocket watercolor kit with them most days to be ready when an interesting texture or color will present itself and need to be painted. Watercolor sketching captures movement and color with a character other mediums lack and lends itself particularly well to plein air landscape painting. Through their workshops, Jolin aims to share traditional techniques, color theory, and their love for explorative play.
All youth between the ages of 13-18 are invited to attend. The workshops are free, and there is limited space in order to foster a proactive learning environment. Registration is REQUIRED. No prior knowledge or experience in the arts nor topic of specific workshops is necessary. Please include a valid email with registration, as we will be reaching out to you for sharing logistics and waiver details.
