Albany Center Gallery (ACG) is accepting submissions for an upcoming exhibition happening at the end of April, which is being held in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month and in partnership with AAPI Heritage Month 518. ACG and curators are inviting local and regional Asian-American and Pacific Islander artists to submit their work for consideration. This call is free and open to the public. ACG is one of the organizations/businesses that AAPI Heritage Month 518 will be partnering with across the area. They will have a website as a guide and reference for the month of things to do in the Capital Region of NY. Stay tuned for the official announcement.

From Tuesday, April 30 to Saturday, June 1, 2024, this exhibition will be held at ACG in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month. AAPI Heritage Month is a nationwide celebration that centers the rich history, notable contributions, and diverse experiences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. This exhibition will be in partnership with AAPI Heritage Month 518, a new initiative promoting AAPI Heritage Month throughout the Capital Region. Organized by a small, grassroots group of Asian Americans in the Albany-area, one of the main goals of AAPI Heritage Month 518 is to bring attention to the diverse and dynamic Asian American community in the Capital Region. For, according to the organizers, there is no single definition for what it means to “be Asian” in the United States or in the Capital Region. And to do so would be to oversimplify and diminish a diverse range of experiences related to religion, family history, language, class, citizenship, skin color, education, and countries of origin.

Through this call for art and anticipated exhibition, ACG is delighted to amplify this message and be part of AAPI Heritage Month 518. Join any of the events and celebrations occurring throughout the month of May. Beyond what ACG and AAPI Heritage 518 Month are working on in this exhibition, there are also countless other groups, organizations, and businesses in the area, which for years have been working on efforts to highlight and celebrate the creative work of Asian-American and Pacific Islanders and we would like to acknowledge their tireless work and energy.
