Join us for part two of our LOOK! Youth Art Month, a public art gathering from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22.
Last month, we organized a group of kids from the Bus Stop Club and paired them with local, professional photographers for an afternoon of photographic mentoring. The youth/pro photography pairs explored ACG and its vicinity, and practiced various photographic methods and techniques. We’ve since connected with the professional photographers to get high quality files of the kids’ photos, and we were blown away by their talent! The photos, taken by kids age 8 to 14, are remarkable and we wanted to share their talent with the Downtown Albany community.
We selected the best photo by each youth photographer and ordered large scale paper prints of each photo. These images will be wheat-pasted to the plywood exterior on the building next door to the Arcade Building, an under-construction work-in-progress owned by Fairbank Properties.
We are thrilled about this temporary public art gallery, a collaborative effort by local kids, photographers, and community organizations. Late last year we worked with local artist Rachel Baxter to create a mural on Maiden Lane and we’re excited to begin our fiscal new year with this youth-focused community photography project.
Shoutout to the following local photographers: Jess Ayotte, Joseph M Elario, Evan Lauber, Jamel Mosely, Kenneth Newman, Mike Schinnerer, Cindy Hasbrouck Schultz and Thom Williams!
We hope you will join us for the event, a small gathering for the public art installation, which will take place at the corner of Maiden Lane and James Street. Feel free to RSVP to our Facebook event and be sure to share your photos of the event on Instagram with #ArtonMaidenand #AlbanyCenterGallery!
